Permission to unplug

Permission to unplug

I heard a really good analogy during a recent athletes class, led by our own Heidi Rasmussen. We were talking about how yoga offers the opportunity to move, stretch and exercise...but also the opportunity to shut it all down. Easy to say to kids, but hard to grasp sometimes. So then she said, "Think about your cell phone, or your parents cell phone. What do they tell you to do when there is just TOO MUCH going on with it and it freezes up? They tell you to shut it down. Turn it all off, let it rest, and then restart."

Heads nod and I even heard, "Ohhhh yeah!"

Building connections and so much more.

I didn't grow up in Rochester but even though I'm not born and raised, I absolutely the sense of community here. Going to Wegmans? For SURE you'll see someone you know. Heading to a park? You'll probably bump into a friend. Walking on the canal? Yup, give a wave to several familar faces. It's kind of this unique "big-little" city with a whole lot of connections.

Classes for ages 3-5, new Rec Center partner, and more!

Classes for ages 3-5, new Rec Center partner, and more!

Honestly, there is nothing cuter than preschoolers doing yoga. Yoga...a 5,000 year old practice that preschoolers are really, really GOOD at. Downward dog? A hands down favorite. (Yes, we might occassionally bark!) Breathing work to calm our hearts? The kids ask for it in every class. Tricky poses? They can't get enough. Shavasana time to recenter? So great, even for the littlest yogis.

This Fall, classes for preschoolers can be found at several Rec Centers around our community, including our newest partner, Webster Rec Center! And if you are planning ahead, enrollment is already open for most classes. Details within!

After a week of sunny skies, salty air, and sandy toes, I am so excited to be back from vacation and with you. It's the last month of summer (gasp!) but also the perfect time to try a new class or head to your favorite. For your kids. For you. Or maybe for both.

And, new class alert! I'm excited to announce our new "Reboot and Restore" class for Teens, Collegiate Level and Adults. Sundays at 5PM. Full details and all August happenings within.
