Classes for ages 3-5, new Rec Center partner, and more!

Classes for ages 3-5, new Rec Center partner, and more!

Honestly, there is nothing cuter than preschoolers doing yoga. Yoga...a 5,000 year old practice that preschoolers are really, really GOOD at. Downward dog? A hands down favorite. (Yes, we might occassionally bark!) Breathing work to calm our hearts? The kids ask for it in every class. Tricky poses? They can't get enough. Shavasana time to recenter? So great, even for the littlest yogis.

This Fall, classes for preschoolers can be found at several Rec Centers around our community, including our newest partner, Webster Rec Center! And if you are planning ahead, enrollment is already open for most classes. Details within!

My very 1st blog post -- 1 year ago!

My very 1st blog post -- 1 year ago!

It was one year ago, this week, that I first started writing to you. I published my very first Butterfly Kids Yoga blog and was gearing up for my first class. I was following my vision, my passion, and was starting something new here in our community. It's been an incredible year and after re-reading that very first blog, I would like to share it with you tonight.

Spotlight on yoga for 3 - 5 year olds

Spotlight on yoga for 3 - 5 year olds

As a children's yoga instructor, I love the differences that each age group offers. From my 8-12 year olds, to my 5-8 year olds, to my 3-5 year olds, I enjoy making each class unique and age-appropriate. For the 3-5 year olds (preschoolers), I love how they are small in size, but BIG in energy, imagination, and wide-eyed wonder. And I'm often asked how it's possible to teach yoga to such a young age. Do they really do it? The answer is YES! And this fall, there are 3 class options to get your preschooler involved in yoga!

Making yoga connections

Making yoga connections

How many connections do you make each day? Little connections -- a smile from a stranger, an unexpected hug from your child, a quick text from a friend. Big connections -- reuniting with an old friend, a meaningful conversation, sharing an unforgettable moment. Our lives are full of them. And this week, I felt like connections were woven into each class, so I'm dedicating this blog to the power of making a personal connection.

"Let's hear it for the boys!" (Plus this week's schedule)

Gorilla pose. Superhero pose. Lion pose. Warrior I, II, and III showing our BIG muscles. Not only are these really fun poses, but they are SUPER popular among the boys of Butterfly Kids Yoga. And oh boy, on Saturday, we had the studio rumbling with lion roars, gorilla noises and muscle flexing! And I might have thrown in Everything is Awesome!! tunes from the Lego movie. I have to give a shout out to my very first class with ALL boys ("except for you, Miss Ali!" they reminded me). I kept up as best as I could :)

Is that a very relaxed...yoga burrito?!

Is that a very relaxed...yoga burrito?!

There is something about a yoga mat for kids. Somehow this brightly colored, cushion-y piece of material has the ability to serve MANY purposes in a kids yoga class. Kids just love, love, love their mats! And so I thought I'd give you a little peek into all the ways kiddos in Butterfly Kids Yoga classes use them....trust me, you'll have a new appreciation for that old mat after this!

The quiet power of encouragement

The quiet power of encouragement

I saw a quote yesterday that made me pause. Amidst all of the other inspirational quotes out there (lots, right?) this one hit home for some reason.

"Who will you encourage today?" -mindbodygreen
